Following a comprehensive consultation process, Richmondshire Building Preservation Trust - RBPT (the heritage restoration charity behind The Station) has submitted a considered project proposal to North Yorkshire Council, for the restoration and regeneration of The Old Grammar School (formerly Richmond Lower School).
If approved at the meeting of North Yorkshire Council's Executive Committee on 6th May, and subject to RBPT acquiring the necessary funding, this would see this wonderful historic building restored and brought back to life as a Centre for Creativity and Digital Enterprise, turning it into an asset for the community, and a home for inspiring events, activities and experiences.
You can see North Yorkshire Council's public report for the meeting by clicking here.
So what exactly are we planning?
RBPT is proposing to create a Centre for Creativity and Digital Enterprise - a community venue where everyone is welcome, with opportunities to immerse yourself in digital creativity; through art, physical activity, music and much more. Aiming to offer hands on activities, with a strong youth focus, visitors can take part in novel experiences previously only found in large urban areas - bringing digital to the Dales. The offering doesn't stop there and sited within the Grade II historic walls will be core community provision alongside educational opportunities and unique event settings.
Create - Collaborate - Inspire, at The Old Grammar.
This proposal is under consideration and is subject to Council approval. We hope to be able to share further information in due course.
